Most consultantcies categorize maturity by looking at pillars of execution, and evaluating
maturity levels according to a sliding scale from “ad-hoc” to “optimized”, giving a
two dimensional view of what maturity looks like.
- Optimized: Processes automated, minimal overhead, well adopted. Compliance automatic.
- Managed: KPIs measured and analyzed. Compliance is measured.
- Documented: Processes documented and locations published in discoverable repositories. Compliance optional.
- Communicated: Processes exist, and teams are generally aware. Tribal knowledge. Compliance occasional.
- Ad-Hoc: Each team has unique processes. No compliance structure.
Redefined Behavior adds a third dimension regarding innovation maturity. Innovation maturity
can be classified in three steps:
- Innovative: Leading edge, new, possibly disruptive. Offers fresh value.
- Standard: Industry standard. Proven. Reasonable.
- Lagging: Ossified processes and technology. Resistant. Unresponsive.
This framework recognizes that innovation is decoupled from process maturity, and provides
insight to the curious manager who is looking for multiple ways of improving the responsiveness
of IT to the business.
How it works
The maturity assessment is a 4 week project, with the first and last week on-site.
We arrange to meet with representatives from central IT, platforms, development, business,
and operations. We discover the current state, document friction and pain, and develop
findings and recommendations.
Finally, we co-present to IT leadership recommendations and next steps.
Outcomes
- Visibility The core outcome is visibility to the current state, giving a 360 view
to all stakeholders of where the IT practice maturity levels. Visibility can help higlight
opportunities for improvement and areas of excellence, allowing IT leadership to make
informed choices on how to deploy precious resources.
- Recommendations Using the
Now, Next, Later, Never Prioritization Framework, we can
provide actionable recommendations on projects that can provide immediate, measurable
impact to the teams.
Costs
Usually, this can be negotiated as a fixed-price contract to include T&E.
